A Lavender Matcha Latte is a delightful way to enjoy the powerful antioxidants found in green tea!

To make this, you'll need matcha, lavender flowers, sugar, water, and milk. It tastes just as good as Starbucks—and it's so simple to make!

How Does a Lavender Matcha Latte Taste?

If you're not familiar with matcha's flavor, it's somewhat like regular green tea but with a more intense, earthy taste—some even describe it as grassy (in a good way!).

This is why it pairs perfectly with a touch of sugar and cream to balance the earthy notes.

Lavender brings a floral flavor that, to avoid tasting too much like raw flowers, benefits from a bit of sweetness and pairs beautifully with bold flavors like matcha—or even coffee!

The result is a sweet, creamy green tea drink with hints of floral notes, offering a refreshing balance of flavors.

INGREDIENTS

For the lavender syrup:

  • Dried lavender flowers
  • Granulated sugar
  • Water

For the matcha latte:

  • Matcha green tea powder
  • Milk – I like to use oat milk or skim milk, use what you like!
  • Water – we use a tiny bit of hot water to blend the matcha and remove lumps.
  • Lavender syrup
  • Ice – if making an iced latte. You can just as easily make this drink hot if you’d like. Just add hot milk instead!

RECIPE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Prepare lavender simple syrup

You can also purchase lavender syrup, but it's quite simple to make at home and definitely worth it if you enjoy the flavor and think you'll use it often. To make it, combine sugar, water, and lavender flowers in a saucepan over medium heat.

Once it reaches a boil, reduce the heat to maintain a simmer and cook for another 5-7 minutes.

Strain out the lavender flowers and store the syrup in a small jar or mason jar for up to two weeks.

2. Whisk matcha with hot water and mix in the syrup

With your syrup ready, it's time to make a latte! Start by adding matcha to a drinking glass. Choose one with a wide enough opening so you can easily whisk out any lumps.

Add a small amount of hot water (about 1 tablespoon) and whisk until the matcha is smooth and lump-free—a matcha whisk works best for this. Then, pour in the lavender syrup. I typically use just under a tablespoon, but feel free to sweeten it to your preference. Keep in mind, that the more syrup you add, the stronger the lavender flavor will be.

3. Add milk & ice

You can use regular milk, creamy oat milk, soy milk, coconut milk, or any other milk you prefer. For a bit of foam, try frothing the milk with a hand-held milk frother. Just stir, and enjoy!

How to Make a Hot Lavender Matcha Latte?

Luckily, you don't need a separate method to make this drink hot! Follow all the same steps up until adding the milk; simply warm your milk, froth it if you'd like, and pour it into your whisked matcha mixture. And, of course, skip the ice.
